When does nausea start?

When does nausea start?
Prevalence: It's important to note that approximately 50% to 80% of pregnant women experience some degree of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, making it a common occurrence.
Timing of Nausea
  • Early Pregnancy: Nausea commonly begins around the sixth week of pregnancy, although it can vary. Some women may experience it as early as four weeks, while others may not experience it until later in the first trimester.
  • Duration: Morning sickness tends to peak around weeks 8 to 12 and gradually improves by the end of the first trimester. However, some women may continue to experience nausea throughout their pregnancy, while others may not experience it at all.
Coping with Nausea
  • Eat Small, Frequent Meals: Opt for small, frequent meals throughout the day to avoid an empty stomach, which can contribute to nausea. Choose bland, easily digestible foods that are gentle on your stomach. Incorporating protein-rich snacks can also be helpful.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids, such as water or herbal teas, to stay hydrated. Sip fluids slowly rather than gulping them down, as this may help reduce nausea. If plain water is difficult to tolerate, try flavored water or infusions.
  • Avoid Triggers: Identify and avoid foods or smells that trigger your nausea. Some common triggers include strong odors, spicy or greasy foods, and caffeine. Experiment with different foods to find what works best for you. Ginger, either in the form of ginger tea or ginger candies, has been found to be helpful for some women.
  • Rest and Relax: Fatigue and stress can exacerbate nausea. Make sure to get plenty of rest and find relaxation techniques that work for you, such as deep breathing exercises, prenatal yoga, or meditation.
When to Seek Help
While morning sickness is generally considered a normal part of pregnancy, there are instances when you should seek medical advice:
  • Severe and Prolonged Nausea: If you experience severe, persistent nausea that interferes with your ability to eat, drink, or function, consult your healthcare provider. This could be a sign of a more severe condition called hyperemesis gravidarum, which requires medical attention.
  • Signs of Dehydration: If you're unable to keep fluids down, feel extremely thirsty, have dark-colored urine, or experience dizziness or lightheadedness, seek medical attention promptly. These may be signs of dehydration, which can be harmful during pregnancy.
  • Weight Loss: If you're losing weight due to severe and prolonged nausea, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure you and your baby are receiving adequate nutrition. Your healthcare provider may recommend supplements or medications to help manage the symptoms.
While morning sickness can be challenging, it is a normal part of pregnancy for many women.
By understanding the timing of nausea, implementing coping strategies, and seeking medical advice when necessary, you can navigate this phase with greater comfort and confidence.

Can start any time also some people never get it. My obgyn says every pregnancy is different every symptom is different you might have something now and not later or might have something in one pregnancy and not the other

Does anyone else or has anyone not feel pregnant at 8 weeks but has serious nausea? I just don’t feel like I’m prego and I don’t think it’s kicked in yet that there’s a mini me growing. When do you start to feel connected with your baby in your belly?

I feel the same… although I will say this, it’s my third. I had one previous miscarriage. No heartbeat at 12 weeks. I feel like it truly becomes real when you can start feeling the baby move at 4/5/6 months. Then you really can’t forget. The huge movements will definitely be noticeable.
