Umbilical cord care

For 9 months, the umbilical cord connects you intimately to your child. What happens after the birth?

  • Right after the birth, the umbilical cord is cut, and it will be up to you to take care of it so that it heals properly.
  • Clean it every day with a cotton swab soaked in saline solution.
  • Make sure you dry it carefully each time to avoid any infection.
  • The umbilical cord falls off by itself between 5 and 15 days after birth.
  • It is recommended to continue the care for 7 to 10 days following the fall of the cord.

Has anyone had issues with your baby’s umbilical cord placement being In the wrong spot? Doctors are sending me to maternal fetal medicine cause they possibly think the cord placement isn’t correct.

for those mommies who are giving birth at a hospital, Don’t let them cut the umbilical cord. it causes emotional dysfunction in the baby and between you and the baby and also loss of oxygen to the baby pleaseeee don’t let them cut that cord

Well what should we do? I’m still undecided if I want the birth at home or hospital btw.

we’re supposed to keep it attached till it dries out and falls off, 3 days to 3 weeks. however with the twisted medical system who knows what they’ll tell you :/

are you asking what the point of banking is? If so, it's to freeze the stem cells in your babies cord blood. You can use the stem cells to treat a disease that they may develop later in life.

Not personally but I think they just have to watch for possible growth restirictions if the placenta isn’t giving enough nutrients but it looks like many times doesn’t affect the pregnancy at all. You may be considered high risk from this point forward and they may deliver u a few weeks early

No u need to leave it alone, keep it dry and let it fall of on its own dont pull it dont put creams on it nothing. Dont give baby full bath until it has completely healed after falling off too, only sponge baths and dry it carefully right away. Also u will need to fold the top of the diaper to be under the umbilical cord and not cover it until it falls off, and no too tight of clothing if u going to dress baby in bodysuits
