Third Trimester Relief

Managing Common Discomforts During the Third Trimester
As your due date draws nearer, you might be experiencing some common discomforts that are typical during this stage of pregnancy.
But fear not, mama-to-be, there are ways to manage these discomforts and make the most of the final leg of your pregnancy journey.
Let's explore some of these discomforts and helpful strategies to ease your way through the third trimester.
Dealing with Back Pain and Sciatica
  • Weight Distribution: As your belly grows, your center of gravity shifts, putting extra strain on your back. Practice good posture and use supportive pillows while sitting or sleeping to relieve some of the pressure on your lower back.
  • Prenatal Yoga and Stretching: Gentle prenatal yoga and regular stretching can work wonders in easing back pain and discomfort. These exercises help keep your muscles flexible and can alleviate tension in your back and hips.
  • Heat or Cold Packs: Applying a warm compress or cold pack to your sore areas can provide temporary relief. Experiment with both methods to see which one works best for you.
Heartburn and Indigestion Relief
  • Small and Frequent Meals: Opt for smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day to prevent overloading your digestive system. This can help reduce the occurrence of heartburn and indigestion.
  • Avoid Trigger Foods: Certain foods, like spicy and greasy dishes, can trigger heartburn. Identify your trigger foods and try to avoid them.
  • Elevate Your Upper Body: Elevating your upper body with extra pillows while sleeping can keep stomach acid from flowing back into your esophagus, providing some relief during the night.
Combatting Swelling and Edema
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to help flush out excess fluids and reduce swelling. Hydration is key to maintaining healthy circulation.
  • Elevate Your Feet: When resting, prop up your feet to a comfortable height to encourage fluid drainage and reduce swelling in your ankles and feet.
  • Light Exercise: Gentle exercises like walking or swimming can stimulate blood circulation and help prevent or reduce swelling. Consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise routine.
Finding Comfortable Sleeping Positions
  • Body Pillows: Invest in a body pillow or maternity pillow that can provide support for your belly and back, making side sleeping more comfortable.
  • Left-Side Sleeping: Sleeping on your left side is generally recommended during pregnancy, as it improves blood circulation to both you and your baby. If you wake up on your back, don't worry, just try to go back to sleeping on your side.
  • Supportive Mattress: If possible, opt for a supportive and comfortable mattress to ensure you get quality rest during the night. A mattress topper can also provide extra cushioning.

I am praying for these results as well. My baby had an echogenic bowel on her 20 week scan. My doctor doesn’t seem to concerned but I can’t help feeling so afraid.

Just seeing what I can do to help relief nausea? The prescription to help with it was way over budget and my insurance wasn’t covering it. I have literally tried everything to get some kind of relief. It’s 24/7 nausea and only way I have got relief is sleep but with a toddler I can’t sleep all day. This is my third and has been the roughest one by far. I’m 10 weeks as of yesterday. Please tell me it will go away by 2nd trimester

What was the name of the nausea medication prescribed to you? If it wasn’t Zofran (Ondansetron) I’d request that. That’s a very cost effective medication. It comes in dissolvable form as well.

My ob recommends unisom and vitamin b6. Take one of each at bedtime. The combination of those two are actually the ingredients that the prescription meds typically have but it’s much more cost effective! And it actually worked much better for me than any prescription. Hope you feel better!! 🤞🤞

I now officially feel like i’m in the third trimester. Horrible pelvic pain almost all day with only a little relief from my belly band..and then the pollen this morning made me break out into sneezing fits which made me pee a little for the first time. 😂 Joys!!

You should try some hip opening stretches. I adjutant like 30 minutes to an hour a day stretching ave it was a major relief. 🙃
