The Development of the Placenta

The Development of the Placenta
In the eleventh week of your pregnancy, a remarkable and crucial event takes place—the development of the placenta.
The Significance of Placental Development
The placenta is a vital organ that plays a pivotal role in your baby's growth and well-being.
  • Nutrient Supply: It acts as a bridge, supplying essential nutrients and oxygen to your baby.
  • Waste Removal: The placenta also helps remove waste products from your baby's bloodstream.
Formation of the Placenta
The development of the placenta is a fascinating process.
  • Chorionic Villi: These tiny, finger-like projections on the chorion (outer fetal membrane) attach to the uterine lining.
  • Maternal Blood Supply: Blood vessels from the mother's uterus connect to the chorionic villi, establishing a link for nutrient exchange.
Placental Function
The placenta's role in your baby's development is multifaceted.
  • Nutrient Exchange: It facilitates the exchange of nutrients and oxygen from the mother's bloodstream to the baby.
  • Waste Elimination: Waste products, such as carbon dioxide, are transported from the baby's blood to the mother's bloodstream for elimination.
Challenges in Placental Development
Placental development is generally a smooth process, but certain factors can influence it.
  • Placental Issues: Conditions like placenta previa or placental abruption can affect placental function.
  • Maternal Health: Your overall health can impact the health of the placenta.
Week 11 is a significant time in your pregnancy journey as the placenta, a lifeline for your baby, undergoes development.
This remarkable organ is responsible for nourishing and supporting your growing baby throughout pregnancy. By making healthy choices and taking good care of yourself, you're contributing to the development of this essential and extraordinary organ.

Had and ultrasound yesterday to check on baby girl!! In my first trimester they found the placenta growing right over my cervix…now it’s right in front of my belly button!!! Has anyone else had an anterior placenta? Any difference from a normal placenta growth?

So I had an ultrasound today and they told me that my umbilical cord is not connected in the middle of my placenta instead it's on the very edge which puts my babygirl at a high risk and can stunt her growth development....I am currently 28 weeks and 5 days and baby is measuring at 29 weeks and 2 days so on the bright side baby is doing absolutely great....but I now have to go in for weekly ultrasounds to make sure baby is doing good 😊

Im 6 weeks and 2 days and I don't have morning sickness and im really anxious and worried about it. I know some women don't get morning sickness, but knowing that morning sickness means things are going right with the placenta development I'm worried that my lack of morning sickness means something is wrong.

So many people don’t have morning sickness. Be grateful you don’t. I didn’t have it with my two daughters but had it horribly with my son
