Signs and Symptoms of Miscarriage

Signs and Symptoms of Miscarriage
Experiencing a miscarriage can be emotionally and physically challenging. It's important to be aware of the signs, symptoms, and emotional responses associated with miscarriage.
Recognizing Signs and Symptoms
  • Vaginal Bleeding or Spotting: One common symptom of miscarriage is vaginal bleeding or spotting. While not always indicative of a miscarriage, it's important to consult a doctor for evaluation.
  • Severe Belly Pain: Intense abdominal pain is another potential symptom. If accompanied by other signs, it could signal a miscarriage.
  • Severe Cramping: Severe cramping is often experienced during a miscarriage. However, the intensity of cramps can vary from person to person.
  • Other Symptoms: Other less severe symptoms, such as a dull lower-back ache, pressure, or change in vaginal discharge, can also occur. It's important to note that these symptoms can be caused by factors other than miscarriage.
Understanding the Miscarriage Process
The experience of miscarriage differs for each individual, but there are common symptoms that may occur:
  • Cramping: Many people experience cramping during a miscarriage. The intensity of cramps can vary, resembling those of a period or sometimes milder.
  • Bleeding: Vaginal bleeding is common, and passing large blood clots, up to the size of a lemon, can also occur. While heavy bleeding might be alarming, it's often considered normal during a miscarriage.
🕒 Duration: Bleeding and cramping can last for a few hours or end relatively quickly. It's advisable to consult a doctor for guidance on managing pain and cramps during a miscarriage.
  • Emotional Support: Miscarriage can be emotionally distressing. You may experience a mix of emotions, including disappointment, despair, shock, guilt, grief, and even relief. These feelings are completely normal and tend to fade with time.
  • Emotional Healing: Emotional recovery from a miscarriage varies for each person. Surrounding yourself with supportive individuals who understand and acknowledge your feelings can be helpful. If you have a partner, they might also be experiencing a range of emotions; open communication and mutual support are key.
Addressing Multiple Miscarriages
If you've experienced two or more consecutive miscarriages, your doctor might recommend tests to identify any underlying causes. These tests may assess hormonal imbalances, genetic disorders, and other potential issues. Some conditions can be treated to enhance the chances of a successful pregnancy in the future.
Seeing the Embryo or Fetus
Whether you'll see the embryo or fetus during a miscarriage depends on the stage of pregnancy:
  • Embryo (Before 8 Weeks): In the early stages, before 8 weeks, the embryo is small and might not be noticeable among bleeding and clots.
  • Embryo (8 Weeks or More): If the miscarriage occurs after 8 weeks, you might see the embryo. By 8 weeks, the embryo's length is approximately 1/4 inch (7mm) to 1/2 inch (14mm).
  • Fetus (10 Weeks or More): After 10 weeks, the embryo develops into a fetus. The fetus's length is about 1 inch (21mm) to 1.5 inches (40mm) at 10 weeks.
Remember, every individual's experience with miscarriage is unique, and seeking medical advice and emotional support is essential during this time. Your healthcare provider can offer guidance, resources, and assistance in managing both the physical and emotional aspects of a miscarriage.

It could be miscarriage or a Subchorionic Hematoma it happened to me and I had cramping/pain was very scared it was a miscarriage. The most common symptom of a subchorionic hematoma is vaginal bleeding in the first half of pregnancy. The bleeding can range from heavy with clotting to light spotting. It can be accompanied by pelvic cramping, but this is usually not the case. Go to ER so they can give you a vaginal ultrasound I pray everything is OK with your baby 🙏

Sometimes Pregnancy symptoms come and go mamas. It’s not a consistent thing for everyone. When I had my two miscarriages I bled and cramped like period cramps but I didn’t feel anything else until my body went into labor to push the baby out.

So it’s been about 4 weeks since my miscarriage and I’m starting to have slight early symptoms of pregnancy. My man and I believe I am pregnant again but to hold off until New Years to test. 🫣

It's best to hold off. I had my miscarriage almost 11 weeks ago and still show a faint positive (though it's not normal) I did bleed for 8 weeks instead of 2 like normal ppl. I think most ppls hcg level out in 4-9 weeks. But you can get pregnant a couple week after a miscarriage...... if you do test and it's faint, test again in a few days to make sure it's getting darker. best of luck and baby dust ❤️

Thank you so much also my levels was at 20 last time checked so they where dropping pretty fast I only bled for a week in a half it was an early miscarriage. But imma wait it out because we don’t want to know this early if I am instead so when I do find out hopefully I’ll be a month pregnant and can get my first ultrasound

To moms who experienced miscarriage and went on to have a normal healthy pregnancy. During your first normal progressing pregnancy, was it normal to have anxiety that something bad was going to happen with the baby. Even though you had normal pregnancy symptoms and no signs of loss. I have my 12 week appointment in a week and I am extremely nervous. Even though everything is progressing like normal. Is this normal anxiety?

I never had a miscarriage but I still was scared that when I got ultrasounds that they would tell me that I miscarried. I didn't even want to tell anyone until the baby was born because I didn't want to have to tell them I miscarried but I ended up telling them around 16 weeks or so that I was pregnant. I think no matter what it's scary to carry a life inside of you

Don’t stress over the symptoms part.. every pregnancy is different and having symptoms doesn’t mean everything is okay. (With my miscarriage i was still throwing up daily till i was in the hospital bleeding and the baby stopped growing 2 weeks before that.) I know it’s stressful not knowing but u can always go to the er and they might do an ultrasound depending on what you tell them

Right. I wouldn’t even say sore breasts. Just like little pain to the nipple in my right breast. Last time I was pregnant, miscarried at 11 weeks, but breasts were so sore. Barely could touch them

I’m 5 week….. last week I was so nauseous, tired and had sore boobs. This week so far I only have a headache and sore boobs. Could me losing symptoms be a sign of a miscarriage? Or did anyone else experience losing symptoms early?
