Scheduled C-Section

Scheduled C-Section
In the journey of pregnancy, some women may opt for a scheduled C-section as their chosen method of childbirth.
If you're considering this option, it's essential to understand how it works and what to expect.
Don't worry, mama-to-be! We're here to guide you through the process with a fun and informative approach.
Preparing for Your Scheduled C-Section
Before the big day, your healthcare provider will thoroughly discuss the reasons and benefits of a scheduled C-section with you. Here's what you need to know:
  • Scheduling the C-section: You and your healthcare provider will choose a date for the procedure, usually around 39 to 40 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Preoperative instructions: You will receive specific instructions on preparing for surgery, which may include fasting before the procedure and washing your body with a special antibacterial soap.
  • Anesthesia options: Your healthcare provider will explain the different anesthesia options for the surgery, such as a spinal block or epidural, to ensure you are comfortable and pain-free during the procedure.
The Day of Your Scheduled C-Section
When the day finally arrives, it's normal to feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. Here's what you can expect during your scheduled C-section:
  • Check-in and preparations: Upon arrival at the hospital, you will be admitted to the maternity ward. A nurse will guide you through the check-in process and help you get settled in.
  • Preoperative procedures: Before the surgery, you'll undergo several preoperative procedures, including monitoring your vital signs, starting an intravenous line, and having a urinary catheter inserted.
  • Operating room experience: Once it's time for the surgery, you will be escorted to the operating room. The room will be well-lit, sterile, and bustling with medical professionals who are there to ensure the safety of both you and your baby.
The C-Section Procedure
During the C-section procedure, the healthcare team will work together to safely deliver your baby. Here's a breakdown of what happens:
  • Anesthesia administration: Before the surgery begins, you will receive the chosen anesthesia to numb the lower half of your body. This ensures that you won't feel pain during the procedure.
  • Surgical incision: The surgeon will make a horizontal incision in your abdomen, usually just above the pubic hairline. This incision allows them to access the uterus and safely deliver your baby.
  • Uterine incision and baby's delivery: The surgeon will carefully make an incision in your uterus, enabling them to gently lift your baby out. The baby's head is usually delivered first, followed by the rest of their body.
Recovery and Postoperative Care
After the C-section, you'll be moved to the recovery room, where the healthcare team will closely monitor you and provide the necessary care. Here's what you can expect during your recovery:
  • Pain management: You will receive appropriate pain medication to help manage any discomfort following the surgery.
  • Incision care: You'll be given instructions on how to care for your incision site, including keeping it clean and dry to prevent infection.
  • Breastfeeding support: If you plan to breastfeed, a lactation consultant will be available to provide guidance and support to help you initiate breastfeeding successfully.

I had emergency csection with my first. It's not bad at all the pain after kinda sucks. Keep a pillow with you it helps with the pain if you hold it against your body when you sneeze or cough. Some doctors give pain meds not many cuz of addiction rates a lot of doctors are opting not to do that and give tylenol or ibuprofen but if you really need it they can give you painkillers just speak up and advocate for yourself. I'm having a csection again with this baby. With my first I went in to the or at 7am and by 7:25am she was out.

That’s what I’ve heard. My bestfriend has had 5 c sections so I’ve been getting advice from her and she’s basically told me don’t do anything for a few weeks.

Scheduled a c-section for two weeks due to baby being breech. Super terrified. Any c-section moms have positive experiences or words of encouragement

I had a placental abruption and they did an emergency c-section at 35 weeks. Labor is difficult whether it’s natural or a c-section. Just remember to listen to your body, don’t overdo it and take care of you! You can’t care for that baby if you’re not healthy.

I'll be 35 weeks tomorrow and my baby is still breech. What week are you getting c section? I'm very scared as well because I've never had a breech baby or had to consider a c section. My OB said that they won't consider anything until the baby is still breech at 36 weeks
