Schedule Your Tdap Vaccine During Pregnancy

The Importance of Scheduling Your Tdap Vaccine During Pregnancy
When you're expecting a baby, ensuring both your health and your baby's well-being is a top priority.
One important step you can take to protect your little one is to get the Tdap vaccine during pregnancy.
Tdap stands for tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis, and it provides essential protection for both you and your baby against whooping cough.
Let's dive into why scheduling your Tdap vaccine is a smart and safe choice during pregnancy.
Why Tdap is Important During Pregnancy 🌟💉
  • Protecting Your Baby: Whooping cough, also known as pertussis, can be severe and even life-threatening for newborns. By getting the Tdap vaccine during pregnancy, you pass on antibodies to your baby, offering them protection against this potentially dangerous disease until they can receive their own Tdap shot at 2 months of age.
  • Boosting Your Immunity: Vaccinating during pregnancy not only protects your baby but also helps boost your immunity. This can be beneficial as you'll be spending lots of time caring for your newborn, and a strong immune system is essential.
Safety of the Tdap Vaccine During Pregnancy 🤰🩺
  • Recommended by Experts: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the World Health Organization (WHO) all recommend that pregnant women receive the Tdap vaccine during each pregnancy, preferably between 27 and 36 weeks.
  • Extensively Studied: The Tdap vaccine has been extensively studied and has shown to be safe for pregnant women and their babies. There is no evidence of any increased risk of adverse effects.
When to Schedule Your Tdap Vaccine 🗓️💪
  • Timing Matters: The best time to get the Tdap vaccine is during the third trimester of pregnancy, between 27 and 36 weeks. This ensures that your baby receives the maximum protection against whooping cough.
  • Never Too Late: If you missed getting the vaccine during your third trimester, it's never too late to get vaccinated. You can still receive the vaccine after birth, ideally before leaving the hospital or at your postpartum check-up.
After Receiving the Tdap Vaccine 🌡️🤱
  • Common Side Effects: After receiving the Tdap vaccine, you may experience mild side effects like soreness at the injection site, fatigue, or headache. These side effects are generally short-lived and much less concerning than the risk of whooping cough for your baby.
  • Nurturing Your Baby's Immunity: Remember that your Tdap vaccine not only protects your baby at birth but also helps support their immune system during the early months of life. Breastfeeding can further enhance your baby's immunity and provide additional protection.

I got mine at 28 weeks and had no side effects. I think it’s necessary especially since my baby is due during virus season. Better to be safe than sorry and it protects the both of us

Has anyone here taken the tdap (pertussis/whooping cough) vaccine while pregnant? If so, were there any side effects for you or your baby?

Has anyone had a negative to the Tdap or opted out of getting it? Hello, My NP mentioned on my 28 week appointment that it was time to get the Tdap vaccine. She said it was the number 1 neonatal killer. I got a Tdap vaccine 5 years ago but she stated that I needed one during pregnancy. I was planning on getting at the hospital at birth but the baby would not receive the antibodies as it would during pregnancy. I did not want to get any vaccines during pregnancy. I got my Covid booster before I was pregnant and I opted out of the flu vaccine. My NP told me to consider this one. I am little hesitant because I got one of the Covid boosters last during my pregnancy on Oct 30 and went to my ultrasound a week later the heartbeat was low :( a few weeks later I miscarried. I got my Covid vaccine around 5 weeks. I am a little worried to get a vaccine after this. Now I know 20 percent of women miscarry and it might not have been the vaccine at all, but I am still hesitant on getting a vaccine while pregnant. Does anyone know anyone who had negative or had a negative reaction to the Tdap? Has anyone got the Tdap and their baby was ok after getting it?

I got the Tdap vaccine & everything is still good with my baby. It didn’t affect him at all. My arm was a little sore the next day but that’s about it.

I'd rather be safe than sorry so I get all suggested vaccines but that's just me. That one in particular is very important because nothing hurts more than seeing a baby suffer from a cough they can't shake.😥

During pregnancy we know our doctors like to push vaccines on us. I decline the covid and flu vaccine. After one miscarriage I didnt want take any chances or risk. But their is a vaccine they reccomend to protect baby called the tdap (pertussis) vaccine. Does any mothers know about this an what you recommend. Especially if you have had multiple kids... just let this first time mom know

I’ve always skipped the flu vaccine. No one has offered the Covid one but I won’t be doing that either. But the tdap I’ve done. It’s protects you and baby from whooping cough which is no good if baby gets it

I don't ever get the flu shot. I won't ever get the covid vaccine or monkey pox vaccine. None of that bullshit. I won't be participating in those experiments. For the Tdap, that's actually the only one my doc office tried to really push on me. They say it's to protect you & baby from whopping cough. They recommend you get it during every pregnancy. It's my first baby, but I passed on that too. I don't believe in most of the vaccines out there, especially while I was pregnant. I just wasn't comfortable with it.

I got the vaccine for both pregnancies and during my first pregnancy my parents, husband and sister got it since they were going to be around the baby. For the second they didn’t bc it wasn’t necessary but I had to do it again. They made the choice to get it especially since my first was a preemie. I thought it was a good idea bc it helps yourself and the baby. Never had any issues getting it either.
