Schedule a Visit to the Dentist

Schedule a Visit to the Dentist
Key Facts
Maintaining oral health during pregnancy is crucial due to hormonal changes that can increase the risk of periodontal disease and gingivitis.
These conditions are not only harmful to maternal health but may also have implications for the baby's health, making dental visits an essential part of prenatal care.
What's That?
Oral health during pregnancy involves more than just keeping your teeth clean; it's about managing the increased risk of gum disease and dental decay that can occur due to hormonal changes.
These changes can make your mouth more susceptible to bacteria and plaque, leading to inflammation and infection if not properly managed.
Diagnosis
Dentists can diagnose gum disease or decay through dental examinations and x-rays, taken with necessary precautions to protect the baby.
Early detection is key to preventing more serious problems.
Management and Treatment
  • Regular dental cleanings to remove plaque and tartar
  • Good oral hygiene practices at home, including brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and flossing daily
  • Eating a balanced diet and limiting sugary snacks to prevent decay
  • Discussing with your dentist about the use of antibacterial mouth rinses if recommended
Q&As
  1. Is it safe to visit the dentist during pregnancy?
  2. What dental issues should I be especially aware of during pregnancy?
  3. Can dental problems affect my baby?
  4. What precautions should be taken during dental treatments?
  5. Are dental X-rays safe during pregnancy?
Maintaining oral health during pregnancy is vital for both your well-being and that of your unborn child. Regular dental visits, coupled with diligent at-home care, can help prevent common dental issues exacerbated by pregnancy.
Always consult with your healthcare provider and dentist to ensure any dental treatments or procedures are safely conducted during this special time.

I'm so bummed. I was supposed to go to my next OB appointment with my husband but turns out he has a dentist appointment so I have to go alone. This is the appointment we were hoping to schedule the csection at and I wanted him there. Now I'm going to have to catch an uber and he's gunna miss out on another appointment 😔

yeah. I think he is more bummed than I am. He has only gotten to go to one appointment as all the previous appointments we were living in separate states and of course they wouldnt let me video call or record the ultrasounds. When he told me he couldnt go he thought I would of been mad at him. Told him I'm not mad it wasnt like he ment to miss it and it's not something to get mad over. I just was disappointed but I know the dental appointment is important and where we live they have to be scheduled many months in advance. He was upset with himself cuz he didnt put it in his phone like he does with every appointment that's scheduled for everyone in the family. He hates making me go alone as he knows how stressed I get at medical appointments. At least when baby is born he is taking couple weeks off to take care of me.

So I went to the dentist yesterday, had a normal cleaning, and took 4 quick x-rays of my front and back teeth. The dentist Dr dude says that I have a few cavities and that I need a very deep cleaning. He then asked if I wanted to schedule to get this done and I told him no I can't for another 4.5 months and his ass gunna ask me why like I haven't been talking about me being pregnant the whole time I was there.. I'm just glad the cavities that he's talking about aren't that bad and can wait that long... I'm not a fan of the dentist but after yesterday I have to start going a lot more often than I have been... ugh, I hate the dentist... yall keep ya teeth health please..

I can't do it because I can't get a full set of x-rays til after I give birth. And that's the only way they can get approval from my insurance company to do the work.. so I have to wait 4.5 months

Just a rant... I am so annoyed... My husband work refuses to give him ANY time off for ANYTHING.. Doctors appt? Schedule for the weekend. Dentist appt? Schedule for the weekend. Need to go to DVM? Schedule for the weekend. Like these things you CANNOT do on the weekend because THEY ARE CLOSED. Oh well, that's not our problem. But yet they not need but WANT to do something they just leave do it, not let anyone know. I swear I want to call the IRS, the Better Business Bureau, and report this place.
