Questions To Ask Your Doctor During the 3rd Trimester

Questions To Ask Your Doctor During the 3rd Trimester
As you enter the third trimester, your prenatal visits become more frequent and crucial. It's essential to ask specific and pertinent questions to your doctor during these visits. Here's a guide to help you navigate these conversations effectively.
Labor and Delivery Preparation
  • What are the signs of labor? Understanding the early signs of labor, such as contractions, water breaking, and pelvic pressure, is crucial for timely action.
  • How should I track contractions? Discuss the method of timing contractions and when to contact your healthcare provider or head to the hospital.
  • What are my pain management options? Explore various pain relief methods available during labor, including epidurals, natural techniques, and other medications.
  • What is your policy on inducing labor? Learn about the circumstances under which your doctor might recommend induction and the methods used.
Baby Health and Monitoring
  • How is my baby's growth and development? Regular updates on your baby’s growth, estimated weight, and overall development are essential.
  • Can we discuss the results of recent tests? Understanding the outcomes of third-trimester screenings, like gestational diabetes tests, is vital.
  • What should I know about fetal movements? Clarify how often you should feel your baby move and what to do if you notice a decrease in movement.
Personal Health Concerns
  • What symptoms should I be concerned about? Discuss symptoms like severe headaches, vision changes, or swelling that could indicate complications like preeclampsia.
  • How can I manage common discomforts? Seek advice on dealing with third-trimester discomforts such as back pain, heartburn, and sleep issues.
  • Should I adjust my diet or supplements? Confirm if any changes are needed in your diet or prenatal vitamins as you approach delivery.
Postpartum Care
  • What can I expect physically and emotionally after delivery? Understanding postpartum recovery, including physical healing and emotional changes, is crucial.
  • What are the best practices for breastfeeding? If you plan to breastfeed, ask about resources, techniques, and how to overcome potential challenges.
  • When should I schedule postpartum visits? Know the recommended timeline for your postpartum checkups and any signs of complications to watch for.
Preparing for the Unexpected
  • What is the plan if I go into early labor? Discuss the protocol for premature labor and when to seek immediate medical attention.
  • How do you handle emergencies during labor? Understanding your doctor’s approach to unexpected situations like emergency C-sections provides peace of mind.

Yes very common, the 2nd trimester is considered the honeymoon trimester because it is the only trimester most women are not nauseous, but sadly for some women like me with hg are nauseous throughout the whole pregnancy. Not a day has gone by without me getting sick...

This may be a silly question I could easily ask my doctor next week lol. But I've noticed alot of you know how dilated you are. Did your doctors start checking you at a certain point in your 3rd trimester? Or do you have to be showing certain signs/symptoms for them to check?

Does anyone take anxiety medication during 3rd trimester? They gave me that tonight to pick up tomorrow but I didn’t really think I needed it

I would definitely not take any of those medications. Your body physically becomes dependent on them making it difficult for you to get off of them. Try finding holistic ways to ease your anxiety. Breathing exercises, yoga, mantras etc. ugh! I hate that these dr just threw this medication at you 😡

I’m on sertraline. I didn’t want to take anything for it but it got to the point where I couldn’t function at all and I felt like I was having heart attacks. If I could cope on my own I wouldn’t take it at all.

No one tells you of the MAJOR CONSTIPATION you experience during your 3rd trimester closer to delivery. It's is soooooo f**king awful. I have been in my job bathroom a total of 40min trying to use the bathroom. Its sooo uncomfortable

Don’t strain yourself too much you can get anal fissures or hemorrhoids which are painful. Try adding some more fiber to your daily intake of foods & try drinking apple juice, cranberry juice, or prune juice. I had that same problem in my second trimester and those things have helped me A LOT.

Is it normal for your nails to grow really fast during your third trimester? I don’t know if it’s the prenatal’s or the pregnancy. I haven’t noticed this rapid of nail growth before I entered my 3rd trimester. I feel like they have grown a couple centimeters in less than a week. Is anyone else experiencing this?

During my first pregnancy I asked how to monitor my contractions, when to go to the hospital, i asked about bloody show and mucus plugs and if she recommended me create a birth plan or just go with flow of labor and delivery. During the third trimester ♥️ hope this helped
