Pushing: the last step before the baby is born

When labor is over and the cervix has reached 10 centimeters, the moment to push comes, which means your baby will soon be in your arms.

  • According to specialists, the reflex to push at the right moment is an irrepressible urge during childbirth.
  • It occurs when the baby enters the pelvis.
  • Your breathing will be important! There are two methods that you will certainly have seen during childbirth classes.
  • The exhaled push, by letting a light stream of air pass between the lips and inflating.
  • The air-holding push, by holding your breath while pushing with your lower body.
  • At each stage of the push, you will be assisted by the midwife and the obstetrician, until your baby is placed on your stomach.

I deliver on my side because of cerebral palsy, and when they they tell me to push, I push. Because of epidural, I can't feel it, though, so it's an odd feeling, lol

I would say definitely prepare your body for those pushes crazy as it sounds it feels like your pushing like your taking a dump but it’s a baby instead. Lol I pushed for 30 minutes and my baby was out, just be prepared to push for them 10 seconds at a time. You will know when you’re almost there your body will tell you cause when that baby head is close you will feel it. Stay calm and breathe through it and give them pushes everything you have.

I keep being told that no forced pushing during labor makes it easier to not tear. Is this true?

I’ve read that there is no GUARANTEE because every body is different and every birth is different but also that when you’re experiencing the ‘ring of fire’ or the baby is crowning that not forcing pushing can allow the perineum time to stretch properly so it doesn’t tear.

Yes about 1 1/2 cm but 75% effaced my contractions are in the 5-8 1/2 minute range and baby is so far down they said they give me a few hours to 2-3 more days before I’m in active labor. They said I’m in prelabor right now

Alaya Lajune•7 lbs even•20 inches•3/13/23💕 Labor only lasted 12 hours! Once again only cried during the IV & epidural LOL needles truly weird/gross me out other than that they had to wake me up to start pushing! It was another calm/quiet delivery! Even she’s super calm/quiet! I’m so in love with her y’all!

I wanted to try a VBAC but my dr’s said i can’t bc my last delivery i didn’t dilate past 5cm & that’s it’s more than likely i won’t dilate again this time. I’m upset bc i want to experience pushing but if it will b safer for a c section then it is what it is

They pushed the c section bc i was in labor for over 24 hours and didn’t dilate past 5cm, and i had strep b so they said i had to give birth within 24 hrs or i could have complications 😩

Omg! It hurts! 🥹 your uterus will be pretty sensitive right after delivery….just take deep breaths…it hurts most right after delivery though….the next day wasn’t so bad anymore. For me personally….

One of the worst parts after delivery was the constant pushing of the stomach. Or am I the only one? Like just when I thought I had a break a nurse would come in to be my next victim lol.

Omggggg that’s EXACTLY what I’d do. Luckily I actually liked most of my nurses so they didn’t mind that I held them so tightly doing so & I had one that was heavy handed.

Any moms out there 36 weeks + I heard so many woman swear by this helping with labor, just thought I pass it along. I also heard drinking okra water helps with pushing and baby just slides right out 😅☺️ #pregnancy #labor&delivery #recovery #pushing #36weeks+
