At 14 weeks, your baby has reached the size of a lemon, a tangible symbol of their presence and growth inside you.

This stage marks a significant reduction in miscarriage risk and the advancement of fetal development.
What's new this week?
Baby’s Changes Overview
Open 3D Baby to see all changes
  • Decreased Miscarriage Risk: Passing the three-month mark significantly lowers the risk of miscarriage, offering reassurance as you progress in your pregnancy journey.

  • Circulatory Monitoring: The umbilical cord, which comprises two arteries and a vein, plays a crucial role in fetal circulation, now observable via Doppler ultrasound.

  • Motor Skills Development: Your baby is now capable of full-body movements, including somersaults and limb flexing, although you might not feel these movements just yet.

  • Sensory Skills: Breathing, sucking, and swallowing motions are being practiced, vital for post-birth survival.

  • Hair Growth: Lanugo, a layer of soft, downy hair, may start to cover your baby's body, varying in presence among newborns.

  • Auditory Development: With fully formed outer and middle ears and a developing inner ear, your baby can start detecting sounds, including your voice and music.

  • Kidney and Digestive Functionality: Your baby's kidneys are now producing urine, and the digestive system is preparing for its first bowel movement, meconium, which will be expelled after birth.
This week offers a quieter period in terms of prenatal testing, allowing you to focus more on maintaining a healthy lifestyle and nurturing your connection with your growing baby.

Helping your baby's development
  • Sing and Chat: Even though your baby's hearing is still developing, engaging in singing, reading, and talking can stimulate their auditory and cognitive development and strengthen your bond.

  • Stay Active: Incorporate gentle exercise into your routine to benefit both your health and your baby's development. Options include walking, swimming, prenatal yoga, or dancing.

  • Document Your Journey: Taking regular belly photos is a wonderful way to document your pregnancy's progress and create lasting memories.

  • Partner Involvement: Encourage your partner to interact with your baby through speech. This early bonding can be meaningful for all involved and supports your baby's sense of familiarity with their voices.

  • Mindful Eating: A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats is crucial for your baby's development. Your dietary choices directly impact your baby's growth and health.

he was probably wise for that haha. I'll probably slowly collect one item at a time. Have you ever heard of baby perfume? The bottles are absolutely adorable with round caps like this shampoo. I know they're not baby essentials at all....but I can't help but want some just for the bottle shape lol

This is at 14 weeks and a couple days does anyone think they can maybe guess what it is or what it looks like maybe compare you 14 week ultrasound if you already know your gender I'm sooo impatient to find out. Also can the doctors tell you your gender with a regular check up ultrasound at 17 weeks and 6 days cause that's how far along I'm going to be at my next appointment which is this Friday ..
