Hunger Hacks: 2nd trimester Edition

Hunger Hacks: 2nd trimester Edition
Alongside the joy and anticipation, you may experience hunger pangs like never before.
Don't worry, we've got you covered with some hunger hacks that are both enjoyable and scientifically backed!
Embrace Nutrient-Dense Snacks
Snacking becomes a way of life during pregnancy, especially in the second trimester when your appetite can skyrocket.
  • Instead of reaching for empty calorie options, focus on nutrient-dense snacks that provide both sustenance and satisfaction.
  • Incorporate a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables into your diet, as they are packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
  • Pair them with protein-rich sources like nuts, seeds, or Greek yogurt to keep you feeling full for longer periods.
Remember, it's not just about the quantity of food but the quality that matters.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Water is your best friend during pregnancy, particularly when hunger strikes.
Sometimes, what we perceive as hunger is actually thirst in disguise.
  • Staying hydrated is vital for proper digestion, nutrient absorption, and overall well-being.
  • Aim to drink at least 8-10 cups of water per day. If plain water becomes boring, infuse it with slices of lemon, cucumber, or fresh mint leaves for a refreshing twist.
Additionally, you can incorporate hydrating foods like watermelon, cucumbers, and oranges into your diet to supplement your water intake.
Prioritize Protein Powerhouses
Protein is the building block of life, and it plays a crucial role during pregnancy. It supports the growth and development of your baby and helps repair and maintain your body tissues.
  • Including protein in your meals and snacks can help curb hunger and stabilize your blood sugar levels.
  • Opt for lean sources of protein such as lean meats, poultry, fish, legumes, tofu, and eggs.
These protein powerhouses will not only keep you satiated but also provide you with essential amino acids and iron.
Plan and Prep Ahead
Time can seem like a luxury when you're expecting, but a little planning and preparation can go a long way in managing your hunger effectively.
  • Take some time each week to plan your meals and snacks, and consider batch cooking or prepping ingredients in advance.
  • Having healthy options readily available can prevent you from resorting to less nutritious choices when hunger strikes.
  • Chop up vegetables, portion out snacks, and cook large batches of meals that can be frozen for later use.
  • Remember to include a balance of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats) in your meals for sustained energy and satiety.

Has anyone else's first trimester symptoms started returning into the 3rd trimester? I thought I was pretty much free-n-clear of that like weird hunger/nausea, general nausea, terrible insomnia, and bad food aversions, but it's all coming back, IN ADDITION TO bone and joint pain from the relaxin, it's so hard to get around because of my size and this belly, I feel like shit is all going down hill lol, come back 2nd trimester! Come back!

Pregnancy hunger is not a joke. I wake up hungry every morning. I dream about food if I’m hungry. And I eat soooo much more in the last 3 weeks of my second trimester.

As the baby runs out of space they tend to move less and can make you less hungry that’s normal but if you are worried drink a glass of something cold (orange juice or ice water are my go tos) then lay on your left side on a hard surface such as the floor and set a timer for 1 hour and count every movement you feel even if it’s light and if it’s less than 6 movements in the hour go to er/labor and delivery but if it’s 6 moves or more baby is okay!
