End of Pregnancy: Nausea is Back

Battling Third Trimester Nausea: You're Not Alone!
Pregnancy is a rollercoaster ride, and morning sickness might feel like the loop-de-loop that never ends. While it's a common first trimester woe, don't be surprised if it lingers into the second or, for the especially unfortunate, third trimester. Let's dig into what's going on, and more importantly, what you can do to ease the queasiness.
Unmasking Morning Sickness
First things first, why do they call it "morning" sickness when it doesn't adhere to a schedule? Whoever named it clearly didn't get the memo that it can strike anytime. 🙄 But here's the good news: it typically vanishes after the first trimester, although some moms-to-be find themselves battling it for longer.
The Culprits Behind Third Trimester Nausea
So, you've reached the third trimester, and your stomach still seems to have a vendetta against your breakfast. What gives? Well, there are a few likely suspects:
  • Your Expanding Baby: Your little one's growth is fantastic news, but it also means less room in your stomach, leading to issues like constipation, heartburn, and, you guessed it, nausea.
  • Prenatal Vitamins: Those little capsules of nutrients are a godsend, but sometimes their high iron content can be a tad harsh on your stomach, causing persistent nausea.
  • Dietary Choices: Cravings can be hard to resist, but spicy, oily, and acidic foods can turn your tummy into a rollercoaster ride. With limited stomach space, these culprits can wreak havoc.
  • Hormonal Havoc: While hormones do level out after the first trimester, pregnancy remains a hormonal whirlwind. Daily fluctuations might contribute to your nausea's on-again, off-again nature.
If you've been feeling queasy throughout pregnancy, enduring it into the third trimester isn't unusual. However, if it's a recent development or accompanied by severe symptoms, consulting your doctor is a wise move.
Related Symptoms: Unwanted Companions
Third-trimester nausea often brings along some uninvited friends. Expect constipation, abdominal bloating, gas, and even reflux to join the party. Plus, you might find yourself utterly fatigued, reminiscent of those early pregnancy days.
Hyperemesis gravidarium, an extreme form of morning sickness, could be the culprit if you're experiencing persistent vomiting, loss of appetite, and weight struggles.
Combatting the Nausea
To tackle third-trimester nausea, you can dust off your first-trimester playbook:
  • Opt for smaller, frequent meals to prevent overloading your stomach.
  • Identify and steer clear of foods that trigger your nausea.
  • Ginger tea and gummies can be your allies.
  • Peppermint or lemon hard candies work wonders.
  • Snack on carb-heavy foods like pretzels and crackers.
  • Ensure you get enough rest.
  • B6 supplements, with your doctor's approval, might provide relief.
  • Adjust your prenatal vitamin regimen, such as splitting doses or opting for a gummy version.
If nausea persists relentlessly despite your efforts, it's time to reach out to your healthcare provider. Don't hesitate if you're facing constant nausea, vomiting, or difficulty retaining food and fluids, as dehydration can pose risks during pregnancy. Stay vigilant and trust your instincts; it's always better to rule out any underlying issues.
Is It Labor or Just Nausea?
As if nausea isn't perplexing enough, it might also play tricks during labor's build-up. However, the more reliable signs of labor include the loss of your mucus plug, amniotic sac rupture, back pain, lightening, diarrhea, and intensified Braxton-Hicks contractions. So, keep an eye out for these cues rather than solely relying on your queasy stomach.
In conclusion, while some moms-to-be bid farewell to morning sickness after the first trimester, others have a more extended journey.

I’m 18yo, this is my second pregnancy with my first baby 🌈. Had back pain throughout the whole first trimester and now, I’m 19 weeks. Honestly try to always have like a small snack near by as soon as you wake up. I recommend Pistachios if you like them, if not crackers help too it didn’t personally help me but most people enjoy crackers. If you can’t deal with nausea I would Drink tea with ginger lemon and honey. It helped my aunt a lot. Sometimes you can’t do anything and you just have to wait it over you need to eat something ofc, anything small will work for now. Trust me you will Eat up for those missed days/weeks in your second trimester lol. Wish you the best! Safe and healthy pregnancy 🌸

So when does the nausea end? I'm 16 weeks pregnant and I still have nausea. I have two boys but when I was pregnant with them I never experienced any symptoms. My pregnancy with them was like a walk in the park so this is all new to me. Does nausea is really driving me insane I've became very picky with foods which I've never been picky. I just want to get to my normal eating again and enjoy food.
