Breastfeeding at birth

When can you start breastfeeding your baby after birth?

  • In infants, the latching reflex occurs about an hour after birth.
  • This so-called “miracle hour” is a special moment between mother and baby, which allows them to get to know each other and reassures the child.
  • You can gently invite your baby to take one of your nipples in her mouth, and the sucking will initiate your milk supply.
  • Breastfeeding your baby right after birth will secrete endorphins and strengthen her immune system.

try pumping to help increase your supply, oats help a lot and make sure your eating and drinking a lot of water. after baby feeds pump for about 15-30minutes every 2-3 hours it may not look like much at first but keep going. breastmilk is a supply and demand thing so the more you get out of your boobs the more milk your body will make 🤍

From what I know it's common to miss periods with breastfeeding and with birth control as well. You know for a fact you aren't pregnant?

Try to get a pump and pump the milk out and just feed her breast milk from time to time. You definitely want to try pump your breast even if your not breastfeeding I think would be best to get rid of the swolleness

I just read that breastfeeding can be birth control in a way because apparently you don't get a period when producing milk. Are there any moms out there that don't use anything to prevent pregnancy because they breast feed? I was going to ask my doctor for birth control but now I don't know if that's necessary?

you can get pregnant while nursing. many moms do experience a time of delayed fertility during breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding mommys …. When & how did you get back into birth control? I 100% do not want to be pregnant any time soon, and definitely want to be back on birth control so please, tell me your experiences :)

I got mine a month or so after my baby was born but then got off if it a month or so later cause we decided to have kids close together but it took me a year to get pregnant and I still breastfeed. Breastfeeding just really throws you off but it’s definitely different for everyone!

So any recommendations on birth control after I have the baby? I will be breastfeeding. I have thought about getting my tubes tied, I know I’m young but this pregnancy has been rough and seriously thinking of not having another after.

Any breastfeeding mom's out there help me out...ive seen people start breastfeeding their babies right soon after birth but then I've heard that you don't start releasing breast milk until a few days after birth? I'm confused. Also how long does the colostrum last.

The baby is usually given immediately to mom so they can latch on and get that colostrum. It's packed with all the nutrients they need in the first moments of life. The milk comes a few days later. It takes a little bit for the hormones to kick in. This is why it's so important for mom and baby to be close after birth. Helps the body know baby is here and to start transitioning to milk from colostrum.

It's very important that the baby gets all of the colostrum for the first few days. Not only is it packed full of nutrients and antibodies, but also high in calories to give the baby what it needs until the milk comes is. You want the baby to your breast as much as possible after birth. I was worried bc I had smaller breasts and the colostrum seemed so little, but two days after giving birth I woke up to what felt like hard, and large, breast implants full of milk. Just don't let the hospital bully you into supplementing with formula before your milk comes is if possible like they did to me. As long as the baby is producing dirty diapers it's getting enough in those first 2-3 days.

… It’s been two weeks & 5 days since I gave birth. Body wise: going to the bathroom to do #2 was so hard I had to breath in the process and take stool softener. Breastfeeding: I’ve slowly cut out breastfeeding and pumping. My body doesn’t produce & I’m not feeling how my boobs changed since breastfeeding. Baby Kane: he didn’t get circumcise while In the hospital due to me having Covid. His circumcision appointment is on Tuesday. I’m nervous and a lil sad because he will be in pain 😔. He’s such a calm baby

The doctor said it’s unlikely to get pregnant while breastfeeding because you don’t ovulate? But there’s always a chance so.. Condoms have worked for me the last 20 years. I’m Just gunna keep doing that lol

Ask about a lactation consultant while you're in the hospital in labor and tell them you want to do skin to skin after giving birth.
