Blood Pressure and Weight Monitoring

Blood Pressure and Weight Monitoring
Here are a few facts about the importance of blood pressure and weight monitoring!
Blood Pressure: The Silent Killer 🩺πŸ’₯
High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is often referred to as the "silent killer" because it typically shows no noticeable symptoms.
This condition affects millions of people worldwide and is a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems.
Regularly monitoring your blood pressure allows you to identify any potential abnormalities and take appropriate measures to manage it.
According to the American Heart Association, normal blood pressure is typically below 120/80 mmHg. However, a single high reading does not necessarily indicate hypertension.
It's important to monitor your blood pressure over time and notice any consistent patterns.
By doing so, you can work with your healthcare provider to develop a personalized plan that may include lifestyle changes, medication, or a combination of both.
Simple lifestyle modifications can have a significant impact on managing blood pressure.
Regular exercise, such as brisk walking or cycling, for at least 30 minutes a day can help lower your blood pressure.
A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins while limiting sodium, saturated fats, and added sugars is beneficial.
Additionally, reducing stress, limiting alcohol consumption, and avoiding tobacco products can all contribute to better blood pressure management.
Weight: More Than Just a Number βš–οΈ
Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for overall well-being.
Excess body weight, especially around the waistline, increases the risk of various health conditions, including high blood pressure, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers.
Monitoring your weight helps you stay on track and take necessary actions to achieve and maintain a healthy body mass index (BMI).
Aim for a BMI within the recommended range of 18.5 to 24.9.
Regularly checking your weight can alert you to any gradual increases or decreases that may require attention.
If you notice a steady weight gain, it's essential to evaluate your diet and physical activity levels.
Incorporating a combination of aerobic exercise, strength training, and mindful eating can help you shed excess pounds and improve your overall health.
Avoid crash diets or extreme weight loss measures, as they are generally not sustainable and can be detrimental to your health.
Instead, focus on long-term lifestyle changes that promote gradual and sustainable weight loss.
Remember, weight management is not solely about appearance; it's about improving your health and reducing the risk of various chronic diseases.
Takeaways: Prioritize Your Health πŸ’™
Here are a few key takeaways to keep in mind:
  1. Regularly check your blood pressure to identify any potential issues and work with your healthcare provider to develop an appropriate plan for managing hypertension.
  2. Maintain a healthy weight within the recommended BMI range by incorporating regular exercise, adopting a balanced diet, and avoiding crash diets.
  3. Remember that small changes can make a big difference. Focus on gradual and sustainable lifestyle modifications rather than quick fixes.
  4. Be consistent with monitoring your blood pressure and weight. Consider using a home blood pressure monitor and weighing scale to keep track of your progress.

Had my appointment today and was sent to triage. Blood pressure was high, so they monitored me and baby girl. I have to go back in 24hrs for more monitoring and to return these containers full of pee.

Went in for our 38 week appt. And blood pressure was 150/110. I'm officially pre-eclamptic. They sent us to LnD for pressure monitoring. Chances are they're delivering today.

Happened with all my babies! Just glad you made it full term. I never did. You will start feeling yucky soon as they will put you on magnesium to lower your pressure. And you'll more than likely be on the mag for 24 hours after birth. I'm praying for you!

My blood pressure usually runs low about 111/68 at the most I’ve had weight gain of over 8 pounds the past week and really bad swelling in my arms and legs anyone who has had preeclampsia does your blood pressure gradually go up over time or just go up out of nowhere? Ik 140/90 is concerning but I’m just watching it because mine usually runs really low

This is normal range. I would worry if it's 140/90 or higher.

Had a doctor's appointment today. Wasn't awesome that's for sure. Blood pressure was high and baby weight is low πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ he is only weighing at 2.3oz 😭 so now I see the high risk Dr. 2x a week for monitoring and ultrasound. Basically depending on how my appointments go they can send me to the hospital for an extended stay till they deliver or send me for an immediate delivery if my blood pressure keeps going up, baby doesn't grow or the blood flow to the baby changes. Ugh.. I'm so stressed... I am praying we can at least make it to 34 weeks πŸ™
