Birth Essentials & Going Home

Birth Essentials Kit and Going Home
As your due date approaches, it's essential to prepare a birth essentials kit and plan for the exciting moment when you bring your baby home.
Having everything you need in place will help ensure a smooth transition for both you and your newborn.
Let's explore the key items to include in your birth essentials kit and what to consider as you prepare to take your baby home.
Birth Essentials Kit
  1. Hospital Bag: Prepare a bag with essential items for your hospital stay, including comfortable clothing, toiletries, nursing bras, maternity pads, and personal items such as your phone, charger, and camera.
  2. Birth Plan: Bring a copy of your birth plan to the hospital, outlining your preferences for pain management, labor positions, and any specific cultural or religious considerations.
  3. Insurance and Identification: Keep your identification and insurance information readily available for the hospital registration process.
  4. Comfort Items: Pack items that bring you comfort, such as pillows, blankets, or a favorite robe. These can create a familiar and cozy environment during your hospital stay.
  5. Baby Clothing and Blankets: Include a few sets of newborn-sized clothing, soft blankets, and receiving blankets for your baby's comfort.
  6. Nursing Supplies: If you plan to breastfeed, pack nursing bras, nursing pads, nipple cream, and a breastfeeding pillow to support your breastfeeding journey.
Going Home
  1. Infant Car Seat: Install a rear-facing infant car seat in your vehicle and ensure it meets safety standards. This is a legal requirement for bringing your baby home from the hospital.
  2. Baby Clothing: Choose comfortable clothing for your baby's journey home. Opt for soft, newborn-sized outfits that are easy to put on and remove.
  3. Weather-Appropriate Gear: Consider the weather conditions and have appropriate gear ready, such as a hat, mittens, and a warm blanket for colder temperatures or a sun hat and sunscreen for warmer weather.
  4. Diapers and Wipes: Pack a supply of diapers and wipes to have on hand for diaper changes during the journey home.
  5. Baby Essentials: Don't forget to bring essential items such as baby lotion, baby wash, a baby nail clipper, and a thermometer. These will come in handy in the early days of caring for your baby.
  6. Supportive Items: Bring a nursing cover or a lightweight blanket for breastfeeding or providing privacy during feeding times.
Additional Considerations
  1. Supportive Persons: Coordinate with your partner, family members, or friends who will accompany you to the hospital and be there for support during labor and the journey home.
  2. Hospital Procedures: Familiarize yourself with the hospital's policies and procedures regarding labor, birth, and discharge. Knowing what to expect can help reduce any anxiety or uncertainty.
  3. Educational Resources: Attend prenatal classes or workshops that cover topics such as newborn care, breastfeeding, and infant CPR. These resources provide valuable knowledge and support for your parenting journey.

Everything had been cleaned, washed and complete as fat as our home goes. Bags are packed. Baby stroller and car seat is put together. Daddy's going to get that fresh cut for his baby in the morning and the. We're going to vacuum the car and load our bags and essentials. Dad's going to go to work since I don't have to be to the hospital until 8p. So we're going to try and get there by 7:30pm to get ahead on paperwork and whatever else may be required from us!! 🥰🥰🥰 19hrs to go💜

What are some good hospital bag essentials to bring for myself? So far I have tucks cooling pads, grippy slippers, comfy nursing dress to wear after delivery, chapstick, Polaroid camera, comb, boppy pillow, insurance card, charger, loose fitted clothes for going home. For baby’s bag I have a few diapers (def will use hospital diapers tho), water wipes, two NB and two 0-3M outfits, going home outfit, 2 plain white onesies, socks, hat & mittens, swaddles, pacifier just in case, diaper rash cream.

Would it be weird if I brought an actual suitcase for myself instead of an over the shoulder bag? 😆 it would just be so much easier, plus more room to bring hospital stuff home
