Burping your baby: must-do

If there's one funny thing, especially in the middle of the night, it's baby's burp.

  • Joking aside, as strange as it may seem, burping your baby after each feed is a big deal.
  • A step that should not be neglected as soon as the feeding is over. Burping allows the newborn to eliminate all the air swallowed while drinking.
  • Burping helps reduce the risk of colic, regurgitation and other problems.
  • From the first feed onward, remember to burp your baby after, every single time. Keep her upward on you for a few minutes, help your baby if necessary by lightly patting the back, and wait for the little burp before putting her back to sleep!

I switched the way I burp mine and it helped. I sit her down, lean her foward on my hand and hold her kinda by her cheeks to keep her head up and pat her back. I find that's the easiest way to burp her. Sometimes she won't burp right after a feeding tho, I'll have to wait like 15-30 mins after to try then she'll burp with no problem.

My baby is fussy when I burp him too. He tries to force himself back to get more bottle instead of burping. Once he is fuller and burps tho he gets calm. Sometimes he fusses bc he has to burp tho. I just try my best to burp him throughout the feeding.

His stomach is growing so he probably thinks he's still hungry my boy did that so I had to supplement for formula cuz my supply was dipping alot due to stress and now he breastfeed and takes formula and isn't as fussy anymore bc he's getting more fuller

Every time I try to burp my baby every 1-2 oz , she will not stop moving her head to the side looking for her bottle and will jump and throw her head back. I’m supporting her head but she scares the heck out of me 🤦‍♀️

she maybe doesn’t need to be burped, try burping her half way through the bottle instead of after every 1-2oz

How much spit up is too much. My baby is 5.5 weeks and getting both breast milk and formula and we are both constantly covered in spit up. After every bottle doesn’t matter if it’s breast milk or formula. He doesn’t seem uncomfortable and he never really cries. Oddly he does better at night- will take his bottles with no issues, burp, and go right back to sleep. Anyone else have little ones who spit up constantly ?

My baby spit up a lot. It ended up being acid reflux. Some things that helped was propping baby more upright during feeding. Burp more often. And kept him upright for at least 30 minutes after feeding. The pediatrician had me make his milk really thick by adding rice cereal and cutting bigger holes in the nipple. But now people say the rice cereal has no nutritional value🤷

Thank you! yea I try to burp him as often as possible like every 1/2-1 ounce but he either screams or spits up. The only thing making me feel better is that he is gaining weight

I was speaking with pediatric about the same. Her advice was to hold baby in arms vertically and walking 30 min after every feeding. It helps us!

Thank you, I swear that's what we were doing this morning maybe not 30 mins after feeding it was right after she was done, then while I'm burping her on my shoulder she somehow ends up getting hiccups! I'm telling you I could've cried, I can see she needs to burp but every trick I've heard just doesn't seem to want to work with her.... Or I'm doing it completely and utterly wrong! 🤔🙁 But thank you so much for your comment, it's def. Worth a try !!
